As a 54 year old just beginning to play, I am somewhat embarrassed at the pride I feel in being able to start playing a tune.

It`s modern music (well actually it`s Sally Garden but, I am finding notes that even Stockhausen couldn`t imagine) so, following John Cage`s Music for a Prepared Piano, I am calling it Music for an Unprepared Violinist.

Now, my teacher has given me a tune to start learning and my music reading isn`t too good. On my old Spectrum, I could input the notes (a somewhat complicated system) and get out a melody for later reference. Does anyone know of a similar system for a PC?

Finale Notepad which is free to download at this address -

http://www.finalemusic.com/notepad/

is quite good. You could also try NoteWorthy which I`ve heard is very good and also free to download but unfortunately I don`t have a link. I suppose you could just search in Google. I hope I`ve understood the question. I`m not sure if I have.
