I want to first say that I have never played a trumpet, I just recently bought one.. with that said I am wanting to know how to tune up a trumpet and to what key?

Do I leave the valves open when testing for in tune?

I have played baritone and bugle for a few years as a student.. my purpose now is to learn only TAPS for playing at veterans funerals.. there is a desperate need for this service.. so I want to start out practicing in tune.. thank you

tune a trumpet with the valves open (which is the middle "C" note)......when you play taps.....you close the first and third valve to play the entire song.....your lips do the rest of the work.
