Which of the multitudes of headjoints for flute that Yamaha makes gives you the darkest tone? easiest to blow? etc., etc.

Hey KC - sorry, I have to say that I preferred the CY. But again, it`s personal taste. I know Baker picked the EC, but he had a really unique sound. The only way to tell is to try them both and see. But I must warn you, I`ve had Drelinger headjoints, Yamaha, Goosman, Muramatsu.... some of which I really struggled with in the beginning because of how I had learned to play/blow on an old cut headjoint. Ultimately, I had my teacher play them, and let him pick.

I know that most people prefer the EC and it is standard on all of Yamaha hand made flutes. After playing on a Yamaha for many years, I don`t prefer much of the Yamaha headjoints myself though. Maybe I am just bias to my Powell. Lol!

EC & CY???

The C and the Y refer to different tapers of the head tubing. According to my aging catalogue they also make F& G tapers.

The first letter refers to the cut of the embouchure hole. my catalogue lists C & S. Perhpas E has been added since.

Yes, you are correct. There are mumberous combinations. There is even more then six of them. I have tried out at least eight of them a few years back.

Not touchy. Just pointing out your VAAAAAST knowledge. A lot for one small person in one country of a big wide world.

A fair bit of assumption has been made of what happens OUTSIDE your small (but `professional` - of course) world. Though it may be `professional`, in the grand scheme of things, it is still very small.

I am commenting on an observable pattern of presumption and superiority that is common in many of your posts.

Of course you are quite entitled to say it, and anybody is quite entitled to question its validity. That is what a forum is for.

While I am not trying to cause friction here, I wanted to add something.
I believe that Kara has hit the nail on the head and I agree with her 100%.

I am also in that (small) professional world and have encountered and I know exactly what She means. Go on the Galway board where a lot of the pros post, and I guarantee they will say the same thing. Just a thought.

I guess AraK or whoever he or she is, is trying to pick a fight. That is pretty juvenile especially on a chat group.
