SUre go ahead and try out the flute. If you can manage a difficult instrument like the oboe the flute should be no problem But I guess it DOES depend on the person, but I say GO for it!

I`d like to turn this question around now. There are no Oboe players in my band and although I am first chair in my band I was wondering, does anyone think I should switch to Oboe? I relaly want to, this other girl might switch also. I want to major in music when I`m older and I thought it would be a lot eaiser getting into a college playing Oboe then it would be playing flute. Should I try it out?

Thanks,
-Ash

Hey! I switched from the oboe to the flute and I have one thing to say: In my opinion the embouchure is harder to do than the oboe`s and that it was the best move of ma life!

P.S.-Keep playin the oboe, it`ll help you in the end.

i am an oboe player by nature and i started it as my first woodwind instrument in 6th grade band. i will go into the 7th grade next year but i will go into the 8th grade band. My school is national champs in marching band, but in ohio you cant march with a oboe is the flute a good instrument to switch to? i have tried my friends flute and i made a sound on it. Visit our bands website: www.marching-eagles.org, go to photos and click on the 2003 winter 6th grade band concert then click on the 3rd picture down farthest to the left(it should be a picture of 5 oboists) i am the 2nd from the left.

I wouldn`t wanna play flute during marching season for one reason. I don`t know how your band does it but sheez our flutes get some of the hardest times!! They make em do push ups and all of that so they can keep their flutes PERFECTLY parallel to the ground! lol But if you have no problem with that then go for it!
