Back when I did own a Gemeinhardt in High School(Many years ago) I never had a problem with it being airy. I just worked harder at it;.
I don`t own the Yamaha anymore. I play professionlly on my Powell handmade. I wouldn`t trade it for the world!

Wow, another argument of what brand is better-I need to find a decent computer and check in more often!
I would personally go with a Yamaha.
Yes they are more expensive, but they are worth their money-there are reasons why some brands are cheaper than others....

pearl model PF-501

Yamaha 285S II

Yamaha YFL-281

I`m looking for flutes on ebay and am considering these 3 models. I can afford 200-350 dollars so these have to be used. Which model should I pick and for what price on Ebay? I`m a beginner and planning to use plug holes then taking it off when I become more advance.

The Pearl 501 is made in Taiwan. I have found the sloppy pivot tubes, and a sloppy post hole (above the Bb key), in conjunction with rather hard pads and not very level tone holes, to contribute to considerable unreliability.

If they Yamahas I have seen are anything to go by, they are made to a higher standard.
