Well i really don`t see the need to learn the third octave C on the piccolo. Most likely you will never get a piccolo piece with that high of notes. Usually the highest piccolo plyers go up to is about high A.

"America" from WEst Side Story pushes the pitch a bit up there, but I think even that is just a Bb.

In the Orchestra that I play in we were sampling pieces for our Spring season and one of the pieces was titled something like "Godzilla: King of Monsters". An entirely modern piece which trys to encompass a Godzilla movie soundtrack from beginning to end.

The flutes have high D`s in a few sections of that piece among other sound effects the flute section needed to simulate... like droping bombs and creature sounds.

I would venture to say it wouldn`t hurt to add an extra note or two in your scales so that you can add it in these special instances. It certainly will make you stand out when you can play a note *beautifully* your whole section is incapable of playing at all.

we are talking about the piccolo`s third octave not the flute`s.

I was just telling a story that I felt applied. You never know when those out of norm notes can come in handy.

I don`t think u will ever need to play a 3 octive c unless u have to play a flute part cuz the highest note I ever played on piccolo was a B Natural for Overture for winds.

Quite the contrary. I play piccolo as part of my profession and in the Orchestra and even the band that I am in, I have played many times past the high A. In the Nutcracker Suite, I had to play the third octave C.
