Lol... this talk of heajoints can certainly be mis-read.

I`ll have to look into the plastic male headjoint design. I like the idea of just sticking in a headjoint directly to a barrel without having to worry about cork/grease. I just hope it doesn`t sound worse of anything.

Lol!!! I was just teasing! I have a warped and some what perverted sense of humor sometimes. Sorry... I just could resist.

PS I was reading the Galway chat group, and I thought it was pretty funny what you wrote about the birds and what happens when you play the oboe. I had to sit next to one of the worst oboe players a couple of months ago. Damn! She played so flat!!! I have nothing against the oboe, when it is played nicely.

There`s is a difference between a feminine and male headjoint? May I know which is which? Lol. I never heard of that...maybe that`s what I was talking about in the first place?

It`s like female/male audio connecters one plug has a hole and the other the pole. lol.

A male piccolo headjoint is just like a regular flute headjoint. It goes right into the barrel.

A female piccolo headjoint is sort of a dual male/female headjoint. The main long tube fits into the barrel loosely and outside tube surrounds the piccolo barrel and is sealed by cork.

You really need to take a look at one in person. I wish I didn`t loan out my camera or I would post pics to demonstrate.

Oh. Are you saying that a Yamaha YPC 32 is a female piccolo? Because the headjoint goes outside of the barrel. I don`t know why, but I like the headjoint going outside of the barrel. There was another piccolo the school owned, it was an Artley. Once, the headjoint gotten loose and air leaked out. So, I refuse to buy an inside barreled headjoint? if that is what I would call it. lol

Well... even female headjoint piccolos have air leakage problems, but maybe even moreso because of the cork involved. The male ones would be easier to fix as you`re just adjusting the tube like a regular headjoint tube. I would assume special tools would be necessary to adjust a female headjoint for a tigher fit as it isn`t necessarily as straight at the end as a male headjoint is.

Poor confused piccolo! I`ve been calling HIM one of the girls. He is going to have issues. *lol*

I haven`t consorted with any female piccs. The "main" picc player in the community band I am in has the YPC-32, and I`m not impressed, but I`ve never tried hers, I`ve just heard it. But it could just be that when we played Stars and Stripes and all picc players (three had piccs) were recruited and one of the others said, "OH, tuning should be no problem, we both have the EXACT same model picc." But, this band also sits on how long you have lived in the same place. (I`ll never rate...I`ve wandered.)

I just nodded and smiled and then went home and died a little inside.

*just sits in the back of this 12k town band and just thinks...this is fun, this is fun, don`t cringe at the intonation, they don`t know any better.*

Guess who was the ONLY person to make it through the WHOLE of the obligato, in tune, with the "train pulling out of the station"?? That would be me.:D It was sweet. I hadn`t played picc much since college so I had really worked out the chops in the 2 months preceeding. (The other piccs were impressed too, as I normally hide in the back row, as the LAST 2nd flute.)

The solid silver head makes all the difference I think...Emerson has one that you get TWO heads with, compositon plastic and metal alloy. I wonder if the student Gemeinhardt picc hj would fit on my picc. I will have to ask my tech, or someone here...

A Male plastic/wood piccthe reviews are funny, if it is hard to play, then why so many stars? &WHY is it hard to play...no lip plate or what? Sigh. Once I got over the shock of no lip plate on other`s piccs, I usually have no difficulty. Each instrument has its quirks, choose the instrument with the fewest quirks!)
