I have always wondered about the flute that is pictured at the top of the page of the flute.com home page. It is black, so is it wood, or some sort of composite? It looks nice, do they play well?
Does anyone have experience playing these flutes?

That is a wood Powell flute.
They are amazing! If I had the money, I would buy one right now!

Just out of curiosity, what is the price range for the wood Powell? I looked on the Powell site, but didn`t notice prices, plus it appears it would depend a lot on the options chosen.

This is what I found for a price.

NEW Powell wood flute, half off set G, B-foot, split E key or non-split E, $10,900.00

I would have to sell both of my cars for that! Lol!

OUCH! Has anyone ever had the chance to play one of these beauties?

I am completely sure that it would take more than selling our two old mini-vans to pay for it. That is so extremely sad....I wonder how the family would take walking everywhere in 115 degree weather!
I guess I`d better hold off on that Powell.

Lol!
I had a chance to play one last year. All I can say is that the owner had to pry in out of my fingers!

Hmm... maybe I could sell my house and get one.

I also got to play one of their wood flutes at a flute convention that I went to and it had such a silky, smooth sound! I just wish I could afford one but I guess my Pearl will have to do for now!

The wood Powells are wonderful to play on. Then again, I have never met a Powell that I don`t like.

Are they very common among top players? I`m assuming you`d have to be making some bucks to get one of these. I suppose you wouldn`t necessarily have to be a top player...just more financially liquid than myself. Which probably could easily include the vast majority of anyone reading this!!

The man that I sit next to in Orchesta owns one. I wonder if he sold one if his kidneys to get it. Lol!

Would you prefer the wood or another type if given the opportunity?

I still prefer all silver myself.
