I would like to know your opinions on ordering a flute from the dealer, without trying it out. I`m thinking of purchasing either a Muramatsu GX or Miyazawa 401, or Altus 1107, or a simlilar model in this price range. Would it be a bad idea if you ordered these flutes, which are all not handmade they are factory made? I know you should try the flute out first, but does it really matter since it`s not completely handmade? I`ve heard people go on waiting lists for ordering a new handmade flute, do they try it out first or do they wait until it gets there and see if they like it or if they have to return it? Thanks for your input.

Definitely try the flute before buying it. What works for others may not work for you.
The models you mention are still excellent flutes even it they aren`t completely handmade. I find that to be irrelevant. I have played on a top of the line handmade flute that I obsoletely despised before. I would have rather played on my student Yamaha flute.
So don`t let the whole handmade thing throw you off.

When I got mine, I asked the dealer to sent me a few flutes to try. I was sent about 25 until I found the perfect flute, which was a Miyazawa. It is best to try the flutes first though.
