Not to disappoint you but I hate marching band. You have to march in bad weather and the school that i`m at is pretty competative in marching band so they are really mean to you when you make a mistake. If I could get out of marching band I`d get out in a flash!

In the beginning and throughout the season I hated it. But in the end, I realized it was a great experience so I am going to continue to do it.

This concept doesn`t exist in my country. Thank God, cos the thought of striding through the mud, getting rain into my precious flute and, worst of all, being forced to watch sport of any kind, horrifies me.

It so hard for me to do any other things in my life during the marching band season. I couldn`t participate in my youth orchestra until the middle of the season because of marching band. It sucks while doing it, but in the end is a good experience and you meet a lot of people.

Priceless...ESPECIALLY after you tell the scariest drill instructor after he says...

"If you MISS that mark you are going to have 13 flutes up your butt."
I smiled and said, "And a piccolo!"
No pushups for me that day. :D Jack still laughs about that one to my Mom.
Yay for having an old flute to abuse and a new at the time flute for stage band. Boo for the NY State Championships being in almost NOVEMBER and living in Upstate/Central NY. Marching on a broken pinkie toe because your hotel roomie is a slob? BOO. Being scared after a ski injury of missing Spain for Spanish Club and missing section leader because you mangled your knee THAT badly is also boo. I was the ONLY senior, how messed up was that? They had co-section leaders instead, so I was saved the disgrace. Besides, I won a couple of space cadet awards, I am not meant for leadership. I`m the entertainment.
YAY for a winning streak that started my freshman year and JUST ended last year or so. (THIS makes me old, and that makes my alma mater a DYNASTY.:D) FIFTEEN YEARS, the winning was getting ridiculous.
Yay for taking 3rd at Bands of America in Indy my sophomore year and first in our division.
But I STILL get super cold toes because I KILLED the circulation in my feet and fingers. Could have been the times we were marching into November outside in the sleet/rain/snow.
I met some great friends though, took some ok trips. We never got to go to Florida or anywhere warm. Our band "didn`t do" parades. But being sugar high in a coach bus with people you spend more time with than your family is fun.
But the dedication of being in the MB got you some leverage in the program and for me it took me from someone who almost quit flute altogether after a horrendous year of 8th grade band, to loving it, it made all the difference.
Also, I can play/make passable sound against gale force winds.
