I was wondering, is it any harder to play a wood piccolo with no lip plate, opposed to a silver piccolo with a lip plate? I currently play on a Gemeinhardt 4S Piccolo, but I am gonna buy a Burkart-Phelan Global Piccolo at the NFA Convention in August. Does it usually take a long time to get use to? Thanks! -Cameron

Personally I dont think its harder. Its about the same. I used a wood one when my picc which is metal was in the shop for repairs. I didnt have a hard time with it.

Ooh! I own a Burkart-Phelan Global Piccolo myself and I don`t have one bad thing to say about it. It is wonderful!
It wasn`t hard for me to change when I had to. Have fun with your new piccolo!

The whole idea of the metal piccolo`s raised lip plate is to give it approximately the same feel (and function) as an unraised wooden one. They finish up having much the same curvature.
