I have been playing Flute for 5, going on 6 years and Piccolo 1, going on 2 years. I have known of playing the highest level of music, despite the number of years I have been playing Flute/Piccolo. When I was in middle school last year, I felt left out/seperate from the band because I played the flute/piccolo very professionaly and was made fun of it. Now, coming onto my freshman year of high school, I hope to fit in with the, hopefully, talented students. Our High School never looses to anything, and that is what I like about it.
The point to where I am getting at, is that you have to love what you do. Play an instrument from your heart. Spend most of your time with music, and you have to have time away from it at points, too.
The piccolo is a marching/concert/orchestra instrument, mostly. It has a unique, lets call it a, sound. It is very shrill. A director/conductor uses a piccolo for its shrill. When I hear a piccolo, play along with a wonderful orchestra or concert band, and even marching, there are chills running through me and I get goosebumps. I am hoping to become a very sucessful band director. I also want to write some of the most magnificent marches on the earth. It is going to take alot of passion, and hope to get there.
If you want to explain your music background, past, future, then go ahead in this very Thread.

Hi. You mentioned having time away from an instrument, and I think this is really good advice. Last summer, I did my grade 5 just before the summer holidays. For the 2 or 3 months before, I`d been playing constantly (and enjoying it). Then, since I didn`t really have anything to work on over the holidays, I had 6 weeks not playing. When I finally got back to flute, I was really enthusiastic. So if you`re not really enjoying flute (or any other instrument) try taking a break, if you can.

I`m doing my grade 5 in november even though I can play up to grade 7-8 because I have not done my theory (i`m doing it in november).
I also play clarnet (grade 3) alto sax (grade2-3) piano (grade 4-5) and guitar.
I started playing flute and piano when I was 7 because my mum wanted to learn so I went to lessons with her. When was 11 and I started a new school I quit because it wasn`t `cool` to play an instrument. I am now 15 and recently started lessons again because I love music and am doing it for GCSE.
I am also teaching myself alto sax and am starting clarnet lessons in school in september.

Hey, i love playing, i started because my friend didnt want lessons on her own but im so happy hat i did now! I took my grade 5 last year and im goin on now to grade 7 flute next year and music gcse. I recently got a Piccolo, which i agree with Piccguy, is very unique and i love playing, i also teach myself Alto Sax which i love too. I really enjoy playing and hope to get a career out of music because of how much i enjoy it. I also think there should be more people into music like this too, it`s great to see new players join my band in school, i love it, it makes me so happy!
