Hello, has anyone ever travelled to the U.S. with his/her instrument? Are there any restrictions/special custom rules?
Thank you for your advice.

I don`t think it would be a problem, what I do is always take my flute with me on my carry on bag.

A couple of suggestions.
Make certain you have nothing in your flute case that can be seen as a weapon, such as a metal cleaning rod. Take everything out of the case other than the flute and put it in your check in luggage.
Keep a watchful eye on the security screeners when you go through the security check point. If they ask to open the case and check the flute point out to them that they need to be careful and not grab it by the mechanism.
I have heard horror stories from musicians who had instruments damaged by security people who had no concept about handling a delicate instrument.
Other than the need to be watchful you should have no problem.
