Hello. I`ve just started playing piccolo, but I`ve discovered I have a problem with A/high E. I had the same problem with my flute, and discovered you can play both notes with the same fingering(on flute). I`ve also noticed I`m having a serious problem with my pitch. I can`t tell which octave I`m in on some notes and sometimes will get the wrong note. Does this come with more time? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Could it be because of your Artley? I have heard that they have a lot of pitch problems.

Hey i had a very similar problem when i started playing Pic, it tends to come with the playing. You`ll notice the bottom octave is very thin, just remember that when you read the music whatever your reading on flute will sound at that pitch, whereas on Pic its an octave higher in pitch. I also noticed for the higher notes you have to adjust the Pic when you play but dont buzz your lips because you won`t get the note at all. All i suppose you can do is perhaps prctise some scales to get you used to the pitch. Good Luck!

you have to get to know every instrument and piccolo is no expection. Picc as an instrument has many inherent pitch difficulties even on great, expensive piccolos. Work with a tuner and an in-tune keyboard to get to know the instrument and get a chart of piccolo fingerings, many are different, I can suggest some if you email me.

Your answer is that you are just starting. I think mostly everyone, when they start on piccolo, it is hard to tell which notes you are playing or what not...The most likely reason for this is because you are used to the sound of a flute maybe? and you tend to forget sometimes there is a higher octave on a piccolo. That was my reason when I had pitch problems. Another way, is that it may be out of tune, and you play the wrong notes, and it does not sound right, so you try switching to other notes, then you get confused and go into another octave/pitch.

Just stick with playing it non stop a couple days, maybe playing a couple scales you can find on the internet? ANd then take a rest from it because, like most people, you tend to get tired of playing it and start thinking to yourself, "Should I quit?". The answer is, no. Do not quit. Just take a couple weeks off from playing, and go outside. Enjoy a walk or something.

Well, I hope my reply helps

Don`t worry too much about it, even pro players have pitch problems on the picc. It is the nature of the beast.

Piccolo`s and pitch problems go hand in hand. I have yet to hear a piccolo that can play more than three notes in tune.

we have 4 pics in our band this year... the tunning is nowhere near as terrible as it was with 9 of us last year.. but... our C, like i guess you`d call it the middle one? it terribly out of tune? is this a problem anyone else has? any suggestions as to fixing it? we can be right in tune (we usually tune the the Bb, right below it)and then play that note and it`s awful..
