Hi, I heard this from the last thing you hear in the last episode of futurame(excluding the credits), it`s is some flute sound that Fry plays on the `holophoner`, but I would like to know the name of the real instrument since it has to be the nicest sounding thing I have heard.
You can find a clip with the sound(the main melody) here at ftp.uunet.co.za/pub/incoming/flute/holophoner.ogg
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounded like a wooden flute, or maybe a recorder to me.
(Hi-larious episode!)

The page does exist, and I know the holophoner isn`t a real instrument, the holophoner itself is more characterised by being able to sound like anything, and producing holographic imagery related to whatever is being played. Such an intrument would be nice though. I just want to know if anyone knows which instrument was used to make the sound for the last bit used by the `holophoner`. I also found a longer clip somewhere near the middle of the episode(mind the hammering).
ftp.uunet.co.za/pub/incoming/flute/holophoner2.ogg
How hard is it to distinguish diffent types of flutes? It does sound a bit like a recorder(atleast like the midi one on my pc). Anyway, thanks for the help.

the working link is:
ftp://ftp.uunet.co.za/pub/incoming/flute/holophoner2.ogg
note that it`s ftp protocol (ftp:// at the start, not http://). if you weren`t able to download it before your browser was probably just trying http and failing (naturally).
nolle: for future reference you might want to include the protocol when you link here; most muso`s *aren`t* tech geeks ;P

bizarre. dunno what your browser thinks it`s doing; but that site exists, that file exists at that path, and there is an ftp server sitting there listening on port 21 which serves up the file when i ask for it.
anonymous ftp works (with the message "use your email address as password", as per convention), but if you use IE then it seems as though they`re explicitly disallowing the "password" that IE always sends for anonymous ftp (which IE doesn`t let you configure).

nolle: any chance you can host the file somewhere else, preferably on a web server (as opposed to an ftp server)?
