Kara, what kind of piccolo do you have? I know you play professionally with a wooden piccolo, would you recommend it to others? This question goes also to anyone else who also has a wooden piccolo.
The daughter of a friend of mine is a high school senior and a good player. They are looking into wooden piccolos and asked my opinion. Not my forte. Any suggestions? Money is always an issue, but in this case, they have enough to get what they want.

Hi, as you can see, I`m not Kara, but a student of mine, also a talented high schooler, bought a used yamaha wooden piccolo for about $1,300, and it is excellent

I play on a Burkart and Phelan. It has a wonderful scale and sweet sound.

If you don`t want to spend a fortune, but still like the Burkart, Burkart makes a nice Global piccolo.

The Yamaha 62 is set at a nice price, but I have always had issues with the scale on them. If you can get past that, they are great.

The Emerson Boston Legacy and the Ultimo are also wonderful for the price. In my opinion, they have a darker clearer sound than the Yamaha but the scale it wonderful on them.

My favorite, (but simply can not afford at the moment) is the Powell King wood piccolo. Same great sound as the Burkart, but I must say that the mechanism is so solid and well built on them that they play like silk.

There are so many great ones out there to choose from, it is endless!
I just gave a list of the models (minus the Powell King wood) for someone with a smaller budget in mind.

I really stress about the scale because that is one of the most important things to me. It is hard enought trying to keep that beast in tune!

I hope that helps out some. I love the piccolo, so I could go on and on. If you have any other questions, drop me a line.

Ooh! I didn`t see that part of the post. In that case, Jeff Weisman makes a great piccolo, then there is always Powell, and I also think that Keefe is great.

Thanks everyone, I will pass on the information tomorrow when I see my friend. I know that the daughter has some ideas, but my friend just wanted some additional info.

Mabye you need to lean how to play the piccolo or work on your embouchure if you can`t get it in tune.

I have played a 62 for many years and have never had a problem.

I would like to clear this up once an for all! I am not an imposter. The post above is simply a troll trying to stir up trouble. Very sheep like behavior.

I REALLY WOULD APPRECIATE IT if the "moderator" removed the OFFENDING posts. Then, of course, you will see the end of messages like these. Fair is fair.....

If the moderator does not even have sufficient access to the source details of those who post, to discriminate between the genuine and the non-genuine, then this is a very sick place.

It is time the moderator did something more effective. Otherwise this forum is heading towards history, like its predecessor. Bona-fide people should migrate.
