Hi everyone,

I recently won some money in a sweepstakes, and I`m looking to replace my flute and piccolo. I have a budget of $2000 dollars (as in I want two instruments for $2000.) If it is worth the money I could spend all the money on the flute, because nothing is wrong with my piccolo yet.

I would never buy any of those cheap brands like sky, or victory because they are basically $70 back scratchers.

Save your money and invest $3000 in a flute.

Actually I won 10,000 dollars (YAY ) but im not willing to spend all of that. I MIGHT spend 3000 if it was a really good buy.

Yahhhhooooo for you!!! Sounds like fun! If I were you, I would try and go to a flute fair or convention. ....or you could have a bunch of different models sent to you for trial through through the mail. Try every brand that is in your price range, that way you will never have to wonder if you picked the wrong one for you. Oh.. and take your time with it. Have fun and please keep us updated.

Oh, and I forgot to add that I agree with Piko. If you have the money I would go for a $3000 flute. Try and get something that you will know that will last a long time like Muramatsu, Sankyo, Powell, Miyazawa or Altus. Don`t waste your money on one that you will have to end up upgrading in a couple of years like.... Armstrong, Gemeinhardt or Jupiter. (Just to name a few.)

Yamaha is good, but in my opinion, their top models don`t vary too much from their intermediate ones. ...yes, they may have added feautures, but playability and sound wise they are just so similiar.

I think, um, maybe, lets see, yeah, let me check, yes, it`s for sure, I`m definitely jealous!

Congratulations, that is quite a win! You are very lucky to have this opportunity. Take your time and savor the chance to make this purchase.

I think perhaps I should go out and purchase a lottery ticket. You can`t win if you don`t play!

I agree with the above posters---go for a handmade professional brand if you`re willing to go up to $3000. Go for a Miyazawa, etc....

Right now I`m considering

A powell signature b
A maramatsu exb
A miyazawa pa 202

IF these don`t work out, maybe

A Yamaha YFL-574H (gold plated lip plate)
An Armstrong 80BTE-0S (gold plated lip plate)

Also for the piccolo I was considering an armstrong

Go for an Armstrong!!! Armstrongs are so reliable and play very well... I would also suggest a Yamaha piccolo if you cannot find an Armstrong...

If you have that much money to spend, then don`t waste it on a mediocre flute like an Armstrong. If they were that wonderful, then why don`t professionals touch them? They are a big waste of money. Listen to some of the professional flutist on here.

I think I`m going to go with the yamaha YFL-574H (with off set G key and split E mechanism, and gold plated lip plate) or a miyazawa pa101 or pa202. All of these seem to have very reasonable prices.

but what brands would you reccomend for piccolo? I know that some flute brands make bad piccolos and good flutes, and some make good piccolos and bad flutes.

Thanks
