How much (roughly) does it cost to upgrade a headjoint?

Depending on the brand and material- you probably can get a decent one used for around $800-$1000

it`s just easier to buy a new flute instead of upgrading the head joint.

Yes, sometimes, but what if the new flute has a headjoint that you do not like? As long as you have a good flute body, then you really should focus on the headjoint since that is the heart of the flute and where you get your sound from.

A new, good flute would cost a minumum of $4000. If you have a decent body already, and spend $1500 on an awesome used headjoint, you would be improving your flute a ton. And many times, the headjoint that comes with a flute is not always the greatest. So in most cases, it isn`t easier just to buy a whole new flute, when you have a good body to begin with.

For starters, open holes don`t make a flute better. Second of all, not all new flutes come with a magical headjoint. You need to get the right one for you. Have you ever tried any top brand headjoints on your flute?

If you do get a chance to try some, then maybe you will see where we are comming from about the whole headjoint upgrade. It really can make a world of difference.
