Okay, I`m an eighth grader and I have been playing the flute for around 4-5 years now. I have mostly likely the cruddiest flute possible, a really cheap one from e-bay (please don`t lecture me on that, I know it was a mistake). However it`s served me well for 4 years. Anyway, I`m first chair and lately I`ve also been messing around with the school piccolo.
I love the piccolo an awful lot, but I love the flute as well. I`m not sure if I even WILL join band next year in highschool (bad experiences with teachers, unfortunately, so I`m loosing my interest quickly) but if I do I need help deciding whether or not to play the flute in the concert band and get a Gemeinhardt 3SB (or any other nice intermediate one that you can think of) or join the marching band and get a piccolo (which I need suggestions for)
As for why I chose the Gemeinhardt 3SB, it just seemed like a nice intermediate flute. It has everything I want (including open holes, and I think I`d get a gold lip plate, too) and it is in my limited price range. If you could tell me of a better one that is under 1 grand, please do so, but PLEASE do not mention ones over $1,000 USA dollars because I am not rich, nor do I intend to be within the next 6 months, and my parents are not happy that I am into music like I am.
If I DO join the marching band, I`d of course get a piccolo since I absolutely love it. My school piccolo is a Gemeinhardt 4SP and it really does play nicely, so I`m thinking that if I DO buy a piccolo I would get one exactly like that.
Any suggestions on this all? I just can`t make up my mind, and my limited funds aren`t helpful. My mom doesn`t even want to spend 800 bucks on a new flute, pretty much, but I think a little begging to my dad might get it so I can spend 1 grand. Thanks
