Congrats on your new piccolo Kristyn! Here is an article on what the Burkart company says about oiling a piccolo.
http://www.burkart.com/faq.htm

Oiling a piccolo is a very subjective thing with a lot of people. I would let your repair tech oil it at least once a year. I oil mine about every 6 months using almond oil, but only on the headjoint and around the embouchure hole so it doesn`t get dried out. I leave the body alone until it is with my repair tech when he can oil it when all the keys are taken off of it. Oil can do a lot of damage.

As a safety precaution, NEVER leave your flute or piccolo in the car even if it is hidden. That is the #1 place where instruments are stolen from. Never trust it alone and you will be safe.

If you are going to be playing a lot of piccolo, you might consider getting a combo case that fits your flute and piccolo together. Being that the piccolo is so small, they are easily left behind. I know, I did this back when I was in 9th grade. I left it under my seat at band class.

I sure hope this helps and enjoy your new piccolo! Your parents made a great choice.

Sorry, I have no idea why I said I used almond oil to oil my piccolo. I use to years ago, but I now use a product called `Bore Doctor` from www.doctorsprod.com
A wonderful poster on here gave me that great website and now I use all of his products.
The oil all natural and will not leave a gummy residue behind like most oils. It smells like citrus too which is great. I would not recommend ever using any of those oils that you can purchase from a music store, like Yamaha oil just for example. Hope that helps.
