HEEHEE.^_^ ACTUALLY i know this one girl who WANTS braces and thinks it's the coolest thing in the world. i said that is VERY PAINFUL!..but she doesn't care. 0_0 PPL, don't get braces if you have perfect teeth. you DO NOT want to experince what i went through. OUCH!!..and somethimes 'something's stuck!'..and also 'ahhhh!i can't chew!'

Yea..it's a BIG waste of money to get braces. So this girl i know really wants braces so her mom is trying to find a dentist that is willing to put on braces for her straight teeth. Most of the dentsit she asked refused i think..
She asked braces for christmas, birthday.. ^_^ but she didn't get it yet..

I didn't actually find them painful at all... I had the whole package, palatal expander and all. Within just a few months, they widened my top jaw enough that I had a half inch gap between my front teeth. After that, they had enough room to straighten my teeth and then the gap could be closed. But I practiced so much that I didn't have TOO many flute problems. I was practicing 3 to 4 hours a day. So I guess it depends on how much attention you give to the problem as to how difficult the adjustment will be. If you go a few days without practicing, then the rapid shifting in your mouth will make it difficult to adjust, but if you practice daily, then you should be keeping up with the change. Good luck!

I don't have braces yet, and due to the tonal problems I've been experiencing lately am not looking forward to it. However, my standmate does (she gets them off on Wednesday, the day before we leave for our competition), and having asked her about it a few times, she says it's not that bad. It can take a while to get used to at first, but once you learn to play with them again, it doesn't really hurt. Not only that, but it'll make both your appearance and sound better! =)

Agh I HATED that thing! I had it too! I would get food stuck up their and gag. I felt like I had to push more air to play the flute.

Anyway with practice it gets better. You have to make your lips relaxed to get it around the braces or you tense up way too much and can't play. Then when they come off I felt I had more flexibility because I was used to all the junk in my mouth. Wax also helps to go on sharp edges to not hurt or scratch your mouth as much. Hang in there just practice. And usually people getting braces you really need them or you'll have chewing problems later so stick with it!

I had top and bottom braces with the expander. First was the expander for several months (in fact it was due to come off and the orthadonist personal forgot and said well next visit take it off which was to be a month later, I made them make an appointment in a week to get the darn thing OUT), then top braces with expander. Then after the expander came out in several months. The top stayed on for a about 2 years then the 3 year bottom braces. I never noticed major problems with my bottom braces it was the top ones a problem. I have a real thin upper lip maybe that's why.

Anyway just practice and if anything's jabbing use was the orthodonist usually gives you peices.

Ooh, good luck! i bet you'll do awesome..Taking braces off the day before a competition..that's bad! Well, i guess for some ppl,.. my teacher's always worried that i'll get my braces off before a competition or recital. it takes me a long time to get used to^_^ She's worried it'll effect my tone..ME TOO!!
BUT i can't wait for my BEAUTIFUL sime:D..yup!
