Ok just so I have a "grip" on things...Kara can have an opinion and express it but no one else can have an opinion or disgree with Kara?
Did you write the posting rules or are you just Kara`s fan club?

So now if someone disagrees with you they are goating you or picking a fight with you? Are you the only one entitled to an opinion here ?

I hope your daughter enjoys her flute. She sounds very talented and sounds like she has a very supportive Mom. My parents have always been supportive of me, so that is great! Have a Happy New Years!

HA!! My parents support my flute playing, however, they won`t let me upgrade. My private lesson teacher and I both agree that I am probably going to upgrade at the end of this year.
One of my friends whose auditioning for all-district band (a different one than me) said, "I don`t get how can one get anything above a high F on the flute with a student model." People can. I can, the junior next to me can. It was a challenge at first, but now its easy.
I wish my parents were a tad more supportive. Sometimes my dad gets angry when I play my flute too much and gives him a headache.
Ugh. Speaking of which, I better go or else I`ll just continue rambling because I just want to neglect the current situation I`m faced with now.

Since we are all full of opinions on this thread, I am going to throw in my 2 cents.
First, pet peeve...What exactly is goating? Do you guys mean goading? ><
Second, the great thing about the world we live in is we are all made up from different backgrounds. For instance First Chair Flutist seems to work really hard at making due with the flute she has, although she would like an upgrade. Kara, has mentioned in several threads how her husband makes great money and is able to spoil her in the flute department, and has a flute with enough bells and whistles to scare off a horde of Salvation Army bell ringers. I am still making payments on an intermediate level flute.
There are parents on this thread who want to give their children every opportunity to excel on the flute. Who knows what sacrifices the parent is making to give that young adult a flute that will last a long time. Unfortunately, we cannot all have fancy professional flutes, but I do not feel we should begrudge those who can. Congrats to you as a parent Kim for caring that your child excel in something she loves.

While we all appreciate your two cents, I have two more for you.
I have never said anywhere in this forum that my husband makes a lot of money and spoils me. I paid for my flute, thank you very much! It took me a long time of hard work and saving, but I did do it, WITHOUT my husbands money. I can say I deserve to have all the bells and whistles on it after playing on a student flute most of my life.
How can I help it if you are jealous because you play on an intermediate Pearl flute and your husband doesn`t make much money? How is that my fault?

Kara,
I have read through tons of posts on this forum and you do mention in several places that your husband makes good money and spoils you. I think it is great and you are very lucky for that.
I am very confused as to where you get off making any comments about my husband, my flute, or anything in regards to me at all, as I do not recall saying what kind of flute I play, if I am married, or any of the above information. I find all of that very odd, perhaps you are confusing me with someone else?
Perhaps you misunderstood my tone regarding your posts. I am simply saying that different people all come from different backgrounds and have different things in life. I think Kim`s daughter is very lucky that her mother takes an active interest in her life, and works to get her daughter the best she can. I think it is great that Shane came on here and asked what he could do to help out his child. I think it is great these parents are taking an interest in the lives of their children vs. the parent who cares nothing about the musical education of their children.

Piko, good point! If anything, my husband spoils me with love and affection, that is all that matters to me. I can replace a flute, but I could never replace him.
I have a student that worked all year at McDonalds to get her new flute. Trying to keep up her homework, work a job and then some to do so. I suppose this is ones of the reasons it does irritate me that children are handed professional model flutes without having to work for them after seeing what she went through. I guess that makes me a bad person.

I got up to High B on my cheap Ebay flute ^^ It`s a lot easier with my new flute, but I didn`t think it was too difficult.
Yes, anyone can get a professional flute. But saving $300 a month is a lot. There are so many things you could buy with that. And if you`re a parent with kids, you might be trying to save for their college tuition.

"Yeah... I am lucky. It did take me a while to save up for. I am also really lucky to have a husband with a good income."
Yes, this one. A good income is not a "great" income. It sounded like you were implying that I was saying my husband was rich or something. I wish!
