My orthodontist said my braces should be coming off in the next couple of months. Do you think this will effect my flute playing?

Don`t know but I am worried about that too for both playing flute and playing clarinet. Please let me know then.

I don`t think it should.
I hope not.
I get mine off in 16-18 months...I think...
I think it would probably make your flute tone better!!

No it shouldn`t affect your playing. I learnt to play with braces on even though my friends said it couldn`t be done. Anyway I could play fine and then I after three years my parents said I could get an upgrade just before I got my braces off. When we went to the shop we asked the man would getting my braces off affect my playing and he said it was just in peoples head that they couldn`t play any more. In fact if you thought you could play well now wait till you get them off and it will so much better which means all the pain you went theough was really worth it.

feels weird at first but you should notice that it doesn`t hurt as much and your tone is less airy. after my braces i got a retainer but i took that out to play because i had a saliva over load. nasty.

So basically it shouldn`t affect your flute playing once you get your braces off?

If you think you have a good tone now wait till you get them off but you might have the retainer problem too cause I had the saliva over load problem when I played so I take it out to play.

haha, oh dont worry about it. I started playing flute before braces, then continued with braces and then got the braces off...7 months ago. I can play with my retainers, in, just takes practice. Just remember, you should try to play with them in, because instruments can really move your teeth around after you had braces. That is why you NEED to wear the retainers. Yes, there is a bit of saliva overload, I mean, come on, dont stand there with your mouth open, lol.And dont worry about it, IT RANGES FROM PERSON TO PERSON. But, if you do not want to get braces again like a friend of mine, keep the retainers in from the start and just practice, you will get the hang of it, believe me!
