Tomorrow all of us flutes have to "Go down the line" until all of us get it right.
It should be fun, but I`m first. No fun
I get nervous a lot...that`s why I always mess up every time my band director goes.
"Marii, rhythm exercise #___, page ___"
Of course, he doesn`t say "Marii" because that`s my nickname.

if you play all the notes clearly and don`t rush, it will actually sound faster
focus on your tone, not on the tone of the other person
project your tone to the back of the room, not to the adjudicator

Marii, it really is better to go first and get it over with. I was an odd ball in band because I always volunteered to go first. I never got very nervous and have always loved playing for big audiences. The funny thing with that is, is that I HATE being IN crowds. RE like parties. I am a home body if life is not flute related.
Good luck with it and play with your heart and the rest will come to you.

I always get very, very nervous playing for other people… As a rule, when I have to play in public, I always wear long skirts so people won`t see my legs tremble, and I do up my hair so I won`t be so hot under the focus lights, preventing my hands from sweating too much and slipping. Only thing I could say is, if you get nervous, IGNORE it, you`ll only get more nervous if you try to stop yourself from it.

nerves are a vital part of any performance. they help to express emotion and give performances a little spark. A performer who does not feel even a slight twinge of nervousness willmore than likely give an insincere and dead performance.

I suppose I have more of an adrenaline kick in when I perform. I can usually plays thing on the flute that I never knew I could do when it happens. It is such a rush, I love it! I really don`t think that if you don`t get nervous you are going to give a dry or dull performance at all, just my two cents.

Patrick said "so how are us men supposed to put up our hair and wear skirts?"
Easy solution go to your auditions in drag. This way you can wear a skirt or a long dress if you`d prefer that more. For putting up your hair I suggest a wig if you have short hair that way you can actually put it up. By doing this I think you would also stick out from the other people auditioning thus making judges remember you better.

Grr...my band director called on me first because I am first chair...
I messed up. I was so nervous.
He`s letting some of us retry tomorrow.
It is so weird: the higher chairs messed up, but the lower chairs got it right!!

didn`t think it was Erin, haha, I don`t have much hair to put up, I could shine my bald spot I guess.
But seriously, young people, it is NORMAL to be nervous, so stop trying to CURE it, I always play better if I am a bit nervous
