Who cares if a top HS player plays on a Gemeinhardt? Whoopdie doo. It is only because they can't afford a real flute. I bet you $1000 that that top player that is in HS (LOL!) is going to ditch that Gemeinhardt flute as soon as they get into college and get a real flute. Gemeinhardt is fine if you are a beginner and that is all you can afford, but I wouldn't waste my time on one if I was serious about music and any good at it. Just wait until you get into the real world.

Just take a listen to Stephens recordings. He can't get a very good lower register and I bet anything that it is his flute that is holding him back too.

Reenie, would you back that up with a recording of your own?

I would be more then happy to. I am not sure how to put it on here though.

You think that you are the bomb on your Gemeinhardt which is a real joke. Half of your lower register just sounded like fuzz, you don't have any depth in your lower register. And ever hear about tone color or expression? I realize you just play for fun, but if you want to act like you are the best on your little Gemeinhardt flute, then at least play like you are.

Wow..uhmm that was really blunt and not to mention rude. It is one thing to think something like that but to say it to someone that was brave enought to post it for all of us to hear is onther thing.

Thanks Kara.

Reenie, I think you have gotten the wrong impression of me. Those recordings were not "show off" stuff, but sightread examples that Gemeinhardt flute can make some pleasant noise... even with the original head. In counter to the notion that Gemeinhardts are incapable of pleasantry.

I've gone through flute scholarship auditions in Los Angeles, I know the limits of my ability quite well . I do believe I have always expressed that I was a high intermediate or intermediate-advanced player here and no more. What flute performing I have done is what I have done.

I'm sorry Stephen. I was pretty harsh, but when you start defending your flute and that it sounds so good, I just picked out the flaws of it. I still think that the reason your lower register is lacking is because of your flute.

It was really unfair to mock his playing from the safety of your pc and it is all to easy to do such things when you are not putting yourself out by providing a recording for others to listen to and criticise. For a music student you should know better than to criticise others who are not at a conservatoire and just play for their own reasons. Just out of interest where do you study and what make is your flute Reeni? I think if you get a good sound out of a gemeinhardt then by all means stephen should play it. I personally dont play on a Gemeinhardt but i often feel they offer something yamaha doesn't, especially in their piccolo's.

p.s Reeni, you seem to enjoy slagging other players and makers off. you appear to hold ypur self on a pedestall and you often sound quite bitter. for example,

"It is only because they can't afford a real flute. Just wait until you get into the real world."

I just remebered that you may have said to play on a jupiter flute.......for one who likes to comment on others being inferior to themself im not overly impressed with your choice of instrument.

Please note that Reenie and I are two different people. I don't know about Reenie, but you might be thinking of me as having said I play a Jupiter flute.

I would not criticise people's playing or instruments here.

Lol. Just noticed this! -

"im not overly impressed with your choice of instrument"

Hehe. Graham, I know you were saying that was not impressive for someone who is rude and critical or whatever, but that's criticising my choice of instrument (even if ReeniE plays one too) and I don't appreciate it. As I believe I have already stated earlier in this topic or in a similar one, I like my Jupiter flute and it's a good flute.

Please try to use the correct 'Reeni' or 'Reenie' spelling in future, to avoid confusion!! :)

Asside from everyone's childish bashes at one another, I would like to add my 2 cents. I have owned 2 Yamahas and an Emerson. However, I have on occasion tried out alot of other flutes. I have LOVED my three flutes but each for different reasons. The Yamaha's were heavier and more precise-easier to hit tones right on. However, the Emerson-though lighter-offered a bright and strong sound that projected easily and I feel it developed me as a player through the headjoint(I had a special-I believe it's called American cut-headjoint that had a sharp dropoff instead of a curve and it forced me to focus my air which translated to a better tone and embouchure habits on other flutes). Gemeinhardts were alright even though I didn't care for the headjoint, the keys felt really ergonomical which would make for easier development of technique. Artley seems REALLY heavy which I'm sure some players would prefer. Basically, tryout as much as you can. Get chummy with other flute players in band and try their instruments. Go to the local music store. But DEFINITELY ask your teacher-after all, he/she knows alot about the instrument AND your tendancies and could hopefully find the best flute for you.
Hope this helps!!!
