Does everyone remember all of the discussion re gold plating various parts of the flute?

Well, I have a variation on the theme. Hopefully one of you can remember the source.

My husband plays trumpet, and is talking about having his new mouthpiece goldplated. We are having a "discussion" about whether or not this affects the playability. I did a search on the trumpet forum, but couldn`t find solid information.

I tried to tell him that it is a process for cosmetic reasons (or if you have an allergy), but he insists it is like "teflon" and allows for increased ease in playing particular things.

Since I do not have the expertise or experience in trumpet playing, I can not convince him that it is the power of thought that is affecting the "ease of play". Maybe I`m wrong (there could be a first time)when it comes to trumpet mouth pieces.

Any help out there?

I agree with your opinion; however, I need to cite some objective source of research in order to "win" this "discussion".

Any specifics?

If he thinks it will be easier to play, Why burst his bubble? Maybe its one of those mental things.

You know, we both came to the same conclusion during our discusion (he finally conceded to my logic)!

I told him that if gold plating made it "slippery", then that would be a bad thing for flutes----we don`t want the flute slipping off the chin!!

Debating is so fun!

Gold plating definetly doesnt affect the ease of play.i have 4 mouthpieces and can assure you that doesnt do any difference however i play with the gold plated rim mouthpiece for other reasons.
