Sorry about that. I have no idea why that is. If you would like to hear it, just send me a private email at kara_kay69@yahoo.com and I will send it to you that way.

Yes, that was my Yamaha 211. I really don't like that piece too much..I am just tired of it, but I will think about that one.

If you don't want to do an excerpt of Chaminade Kara...I will. I love that piece! What excerpt would you like Andrew?

Yes, you go ahead, I suck at it anyway. My right hand it still sore and I am having all sorts of trouble with my carpal tunnel. I am going to have to put up the flute for a little while I think.

I am a bit shy I think when it comes to posting my playing on here, but at least everyone finally got to hear me play.

Don't be shy! You play wonderfully! I'm so sorry to hear you talking about putting the flute up for a while. I would never wish that on my most fearsome competitive flute player! I hope everything is ok...have you had surgery for your carpal tunnel yet?

-Dennis
P.S. I can't believe I am still up!

No, I haven't had surgery and if I don't slow down I will have to. I have been trying to record Chaminades concerto for over the past half and hour without much luck. My bunnies will not shut up!! They are in the computer room with me where I record and they know I am in here so they are making all sorts of racket! Yesterday I had to drag all five of them out and put them in another room to record, but that is another hassle in itself and I didn't feel like dealing with it. Ugh!

I am always up late. I am a night owl. My mom says that even as a baby I liked to be up at night and sleep during the day. Lol! Anyway...I give up trying to record. My hands are hurting anyway. I am not going to put it up completely, just slow down a bit. That is hard for me to do since I have things that I should be practicing for.

By the way, what flute do you play on and do you like it? I love mine, but it is a bit heavy for me right now.

Hey, check out the stuff I am selling.

I am trying to raise money to buy the new headjoint that Sankyo just came out with. It is called an FT.

I play a Pearl 765RBE-Coda...I love it....just not the headjoint. I also have a 665RBE-Coda...this is the silver-plated version...it's my backup now and very good also...I bought the fricking awesome headjoint with all those options...it was great...I just don't think I was able to develop a good colour tone on it though so I sent it back. It spoke amazingly well, though. I might go with a jack moore headjoint next if I can find one. I heard they are fantastic. So, as far as headjoints go...I am still playing on my Nickel headjoint that I got with my pearl flute pf-521 a LONG LONG LONG time ago. It speaks clear. Has a good tone eventhough it is nickel...and I love that I can get F#3 out so clear and on the first try with it. That happens to be my problem note!

-Dennis
P.S. I am not sure how you would rate the heaviness of my flutes...the 665 is definitely lighter...and they both have C# tril and D# rollers....

I bought a Pearl as a backup while I was trying to sell my Muramatsu ate Flute World and it did seem a lot lighter then my Powell. The powell tends to be a bit heavier I think. I wish I could get the Powell's mechanism on my Yamaha 221 and then it would be perfect. I actually like silver plated bodies better.

You should try a Sankyo NRS1 or the new one out by them. They are awesome!

Kara;
I don't have carpal tunnel, but I do have DeQuervain Tenosynovitis , which is the tendon that runs from the thumb joint, down through the wrist and beyond. I had a real bad time with it last spring, and ended up getting a cortisone shot into the tendon. It helped immensly!

It is flaring up again now (but lasted a year), and I suppose I'll have to go back and talk about another shot.

It is so much less invasive than surgery, do you know it cortisone shots would help you?

Thanks Kippsix. I have had a cortisone shot in my right hand before and it did help for a little while. My docor said something about it damaging the tissue if I get too many of them though. I think that is what he said? Something like that.

Kara, your recording sounded great!

Now about this music injury stuff. My Dad bought me this book called "Playing (less) Hurt: an Injury Prevention Guide for Musicians" by Janet Horvath. The book is $21 US or $32 Canadian, but it has a lot of great stuff in it like instrumental modifications, stretches you can do in the shower, on stage stretches, chapters about nerve entrapments, and hand forearm pain; muscle and tendon disorders of the arms and shoulders, etc... It might be worth reading.

Sorry if I sound like a sales person.

re: Cortisone shots

Yes, my doc said the same about the cortisone shots, but he said something about if they aren't given very often (year apart?), then there's potentially less of a problem. I did have to wear my brace and be extremely cautious and careful with my wrist for about 10 days after the shot because initially the cortisone does weaken the tendon.

I do not want surgery
