A serious technician should be familiar with all supplies offered by specialist suppliers, IMHO.

I will look into that, but keep in mind, I don't do it as my career, it is just on the side, but I take it very seriously when I do work on a flute. I don't work on a flute everyday, it is off and on, so if I have free tools to use at the music store, for now, until I move away I will take advantage of them. I only do it really to help out people. I don't make much of a profit, sometimes a don't make anything. I just love to do it.

I should also add that sorry if it came off as we were mocking you personally, but I do think that there are some very eccentric overly uptight people out there that make a mountain into a moll hill and it is just plain irritating.

Oops.. I meant a moll hill into a mountain.

I wasn't mocking at all. I was genuinely curious if using a silver polishing cloth on a tenon could somehow be detrimental to the parts.

Micron, you have a picture of a crushed flute as your icon -- is this proper appreciation of "precision engineering" that goes into a flute??

Even if I sanded my own tenon, I can promise my flute would turn our better than that one.

All in good fun...people seem really nice here...laugh a little!

I thought it was a horribly funny picture. I think of it as a visual manifestation of what it sounds like when I attempt to play anything with more than 3 sharps in the key.
