The best way about going about it is to give Flute World a call. Ask for Diane, she will help you. Then have them send you both the Emerson and the Gemeinhardt. I would really think that it would be best for you to try them out back to back and see which one you like better.

Emerson must have gotten better in the past few year because I find them to be outstanding even better then the Yamaha. Just my opinion.

uh... shopping spree? id spend the money on a piccolo. id choose the piccolo option #2 though (but a professional model). i got my flute last year as my birthday present (and i love it) so this year the parents offered to buy a piccolo before i head off to interlochen. sadly, they're out of work.

you guys mentioned the boston legacy and the global. those were the 2 i was really interested in, but some said the emerson wasnt worth it. AH!!!! what about it then?

as for schoolgirl, my teacher said the PJ Hardy piccolo is a very nice plastic piccolo. They sell it at the flute specialists which is over by flute world in michigan (i know because i know the owner personally). im sure if you called theyd be more than hapy to help you out there. flute world is good as well to find nice used piccolos, but there happens to be a rather rude woman there and i wont get into that (theres been numerous complaints about her and im not sure if shes even there still) but robert at flute specialists would help you out in finding a hardy piccolo.

Yea..but i'm not getting a pro piccolo. I'm going to get a standard one just to play around with during my highschool years.

OMG! You're going to interlochen?? I might go there this summer..but i don't know. It's a really long camp, and there's TONS of other stuff i want to do over the summer. I'm going to florida..and how about HAWAII? I don't know if i want to spend my WHOLE summer at interlochen. Imean it sounds SO cool..but ..hmmm..i don't know. I live in Illinois so it's very close..

Ah...does her name happen to start with a B by any chance? If so, I am glad I am not the only one who thought she was rather rude. I have called several times and get stuck talking to her. She treats me like I am stupid, going on about different aspects of the flute. Like I don't know that after playing 19 years. Lol! I repair flutes for God's sake and she even knows this, but STILL treats me like this. Ugh!!

oh yeah... and whats worse: if youve ever walked in there you'd know shes acts just as bad as her hygiene. i know thats rude to say, but its horribly true. but thats why i dont like going in there anymore. its a sad thing to say, but so true. because shaul is such a nice man.

Lol! That is kind of funny because in my head I always try to picture whom I am talking to on the phone if I have never met them. Well then, I guess I am not the only one who felt that way. I thought maybe she just didn't like me.

I wonder if Shaul is aware of how customers are feeling about this. There has been times when only she was in the department and I told the person that answers the phone that I would just call back later when Diane was in. I wonder if they know that they are loosing business because of this person? That is too bad. I know if I owned a small company I certainly would not have B working there.

<Added>

Sorry, I meant to type losing, not loosing.

yes, they are aware that there are many complaints about her. they almost fired her before, but she knows her stuff, so they keep her. my current flute teacher used to give lessons there and she quit teaching there just because of B. Everyone is quite aware that theyre losing business, but the majority of the people do not talk to her or they work around her. theres not many other shops like flute world around.
