My daughter is a freshman first chair. She keeps her student Armstrong in the band room to play at school and uses her solid silver Haynes at home and performances. There is a great difference in the flutes...but I'm not willing to risk the Haynes to accidents. She plays well enough even though the Armstrong isn't as nice of an instrument. All the other students are playing with various "student" flutes.

Question: I just bought a "Biltmore USA" concert flute for the high school...plays very nice and in great condition and cheap. But I can't find any info on the net! It's as if the maker never existed. Has anyone ever heard of it or know of anything about Biltmore Flutes? The sodering isn't as aesthetic as Haynes and it's at least silver plated. Has a serial number.

Does your daughter have a comercial or handmade Haynes. Is it an older one? Some of those older models are sweet. I wouldn't want my daughter taking it to school either.

Sorry, I have never heard about the other flute that you are talking about. Is it just a student model flute?

The Haynes is indeed top quaility and old. We inherited it otherwise I would never buy it for a HS student.

The Biltmore I bought for the school plays beautifully but I believe it is a student flute. Not a ding or scratch on it. Hasn't been played in 20 years but the cork and pads are still good. I didn't buy it from an original owner.

Just want to know more about it. It's stamped Biltmore USA but I can't find a thing on the internet except hotels etc.

This link says that Biltmore was also Regal and Harmony Instruments. From other google searches it sounds like they did mostly guitars but the company changed names to Regal and Harmony and made other instruments also.

I would LOVE to leave my pearl flute at home and use my gemienhardt for school. But i just LOVE my new pearl,...and gemienhardt?..i really don't like it. I have a feeling i'm going to loose my pearl..OH boy,.. I guess it's not a good idea for a HS student to carry around a expensive flute...

I like to use my pearl in band..it gives a better projection then my gemienhardt...and there's barely any flutes in band so i have to play out...i dunno. It's hard to leave my pearl at home

"Expensive" varies from whom you ask.

Like I said..it depends on who you ask. After so much for headjoint and handmade flutes, $700 is a drop in the bucket to some. $700 would be consider a lot to a kid.

<Added>

I meant to say $700 for a flute.

schoolgirl0125 is a good example of why your shouldn't let you kids have a professional flute or at least not take it to school. Like it or not, kids have a lot kids just don't know the concept of responsibility. In time they will understand, it is all part of nature.

HEy,..thanks. i appreciate that -__-"
So, i don't deserve a pro flute?..alright. But you know what? i can't help it if this is how i am. You make MISTAKES in life and learn. I DESERVE a pro fltue more than anyone in my school..you don't know how much i went through..and accomplished.
I dunno, maybe i'm taking your comment the wrong way..but it sounds harsh to me.. yea.

<Added>

If you KNEW me, i don't think anyone in the world would say that to me. I don't take commments like that from ppl who don't even KNOW me..that's okay..

"schoolgirl0125 is a good example of why your shouldn't let you kids have a professional flute or at least not take it to school.

It really escapes me as to to why people tend to feel the need to tell parents what they should let their kids do.

This isn't the first post that I have read where someone has said you shouldn't let your kids have an expensive instrument or take it to school.

In most cases parents tend to know their kids pretty well...they know whether their kids do their homework, clean their rooms, hang up their clothes etc.

My daughter has a pretty nice flute...and she takes it to school everyday. I am wondering why she shouldn't have a nice flute or take it to school, when I know her better than anyone.

I don't know schoolgirl or her parents but who am I to tell them how to parent their daughter.

schoolgirl0125 gee I wonder where I ever could have gotten that idea? Go back and read some of your posts. You said yourself that you have lost your flute a few times already. Is that being responsible?

Kim that is fine if you know your child. Not all children are irresponsible. With so many flutes being stolen from school, I would just be worried is all. If you have it insrured or are lucky enough to just have the money to replace it if that happens, then I wouldn't worry about it.

OH, i'm SORRY..i almost lost my flute a couple of times. Well..i have it don't i? Just because of that..you're calling me irresponsible?..alright say that. It doesn't matter to me what you say...you don't even know me. You can't just judge a person..without knowing them..didn't you learn that??

Call me whatever you want...
i'm not saying anything..go ahead.
