Hmmm, Seems like we have a student or maybe a professor of philosophy here Joe B...

At any rate,
We may have solved it but certainly haven't fixed it. ......One solution... Save yourselves from religion and organized government! Move to D.C.

BTW (I hate to be on topic but....I asked a few of my students last night about; "How do you know what is right and what is wrong?" and even the youngest, a third grader came to the conclusion without any steering on my part that right and wrong is learned. Probably from a few cliche's heard like; "Hasn't anybody ever taught you right from wrong?"

i'm really glad that you guys have a very "deep way of thinking"(i don't know how to say it in one word)
ooh, boy i've got plenty of things to put on my report.
thanks guys!
anyways,
yep, i've read something about that.

i think right and wrong depends on "when" and "where" you are.

for example:
during early years..."the earth is flat".(they think it's right)
but of course we know that the earth is not flat, it is because we are living in a different time wherin science is very much developed.
the basis of what's right have changed.

and maybe on later years, the things that we believe to be wrong will change and become right.

just like the execution of witches and heretics during dark ages, they used to believe that it is right to sentence someone to death just because he/she defies the present belief.(in their time, it is right)
but today many people are respecting the difference between religions for the sake of peace and morality(today we believe it is right)
the basis of whats right and wrong changes.

Ha... well, I would be amazed if between you (Bilbo), and Joe solved the world's problems on a forum!

I love getting involved in philosophy...

Moving to D.C.? That's the best way to get rid of government...

Read "The World is Flat" by T. Friedman... I read it in about a month and it was really good for understanding globalization and expansion of culture, government and religion.

Whoa!!!!the Earth is NOT FLAT???
http://www.alaska.net/~clund/e_djublonskopf/Flatearthsociety.htm
The earth is definately flat as far as I believe...
~Bilbo
N.E. Ohio...it's flatter than Pa. anyway

You do know that in the S.Western part of the U.S. they use lasers to level the fields for irrigation purposes. Although (according to Einstein) this Laser beam may not be totally flat, it should be p.r.e.t.t.y near close.

I know the world is not flat! Geographically, that is... Friedman uses the argument that outsourcing and other things like that have made the world flat from a different perspective.
Globalization 1.0: The world is round. Columbus sailed and no one really ever traveled or knew what was on the other side of the earth.
Globalization 2.0: The world is not as round (or as big). People can communicate through letters and other "primitive" means of communication and there is now a broader knowledge of "the other side of the world."
Globalization 3.0: The world is flat and small. With email and telephone and the internet, people can communicate across the world to one another in a heartbeat and technology has shrunk the world from large to medium to flat.

I think that it is interesting that they shape the ground with lasers... is it true, or are you just joking...???

(I like your avatar, by the way, Bilbo. I just got done watching the third Star Wars and thought of your avatar when Yoda was jumping around... )

I guess that they are still flattening the earth at that site.
Yes, they level the fields with lasers. In the SW US water availability is at a premium and having one area not level would waste water.

"Globalization 1.0: The world is round. Columbus sailed and no one really ever traveled or knew what was on the other side of the earth."
hehe....The people on the other side of the Earth knew what was there. The Vikings sailed to the area west of Greenland a few centuries before Colombus. And The Chinese treveled to the US West coast, a bit before that.
My take on Chris Columbus, He never made it to India (not even half way) and as an act of denial called the native people in the Caribbean, "Indians".

My Yoda Avatar was harvested from another It has no relation to my actual looks. Yoda looks smarter, taller and has more hair than I with less obtrusive ears and less warts.

Ah! You shouldn't be so mean to yourself! I am sure that your ears are no more pointy than Yoda's, nor are you any shorter! *smile*

Opps, yeah, I forgot about the Vikings... Bad, considering they are my state's football team.... Yikes... Oh, well. I don't agree with Columbus and what he did. I think the fact that he enslaved the natives in South America was a really poor thing to do... I took a special class on this for college and what I learned about Columbus was horrifying. He was no hero, he was just lucky he made it to South America alive. The only clever thing he ever did was make the egg stand on it's end, if you have heard that story!

I really do suggest Freidman's books. There is a new, revised copy of "The World Is Flat" that I saw just a few weeks ago in Barnes and Noble... He blabbers a bit and can get long winded, but he is a good writer.

(I love how this has absolutely nothing to do with flutes... unless we wanted to discuss the spread of the concept of a "flute" throughout the world using "The World Is Flat." I don't see how that would be a very strong discussion, but it's worth a shot. *joking, joking*)

(For Halloween this past year, a few people and I from my community band went as Star Wars characters to a party. We had a Yoda! He was not very convincing, as he could not speak backward! I was that queen; um, Padme? I don't know how to spell that!)

Funny how I never consider California as part of the southwest United States. California always seems to be an entity in and of itself.

Didn't think that was happening in AZ.

Hmmm, Now that I think of it, I need to remember to talk to the band directors. the seem to want the flutes to hold thwir instruments up like they wee leveled by LASERS...

At any rate, my ears aren't at all like Yoda's. I was jesting. A very nice photo of me is at :http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v353/Bilbo_Baggins/Moving_Gifs/Flute-rab2_anm.gif
