Don't worry! Music can bring stress as well as cause it! If you are having problems with your band (like they are not listening or being loud) just ignore them. Don't let it bother you. Or, you could step in. If it is a group that you talk talk with in front of the rest of the band, or just tell them to be quiet, sometimes that works. Usually people respond best to section leaders or other band leaders.
If is is the director (if he is new or doesn't know what is going on) just tell him your concerns and see if you can't work together to fix it. Or, if it is the director himself, talk to another teacher.
If your band is really bothering you, though, join a different band or quit. Usually patience is the key. I have been a part of community and school bands for well over 7 years now and I have gone through a different teacher every year, most of them new, so none of them know what they are really doing; the band takes advantage of that and myself and several other people make sure that things don't get too out of hand. Don't worry, it happens to ALL band students SOMEWHERE along the line! Getting frusterated with the band shows that you are an aware musician and, although you could let some of it slide off your back, just know that not everyone is going to be committed to music for the rest of their lives!
Hope this helped! (Is there any specific reason why you are frusterated?)

Don't worry..hey, my freshman band, no one cares about rehearsal anymore. we get nothing done..it's really sad. as a section leader, in marching band and concert, i try to be a good role model..how a person should act like. you may be surprised how many ppl look up to you. i always try to keep a lot of band spirit. Always try to put a smile on and be ethusiastic(sp?) about band i know it's hard,..but stick with it!! i know,..i've gone through the stress too, i mean my band director is a negative person. but he's trying!...

OH, hey you guys. do you guys give advices to other ppl in your section about the music or something? my bestfriend plays flute and i don't she likes it if i tell her advices..i'm not trying to be mean. she's not a easy person to recieve advices...i dunno. i told it really nicely though, really friendly..hmm. i guess i should keep my mouth close. what do you guys think?

<Added>

and the advice wasn't something BIG, like ' oh you're playing it all wrong..and you should play..blah..blah"
it was something REALLY small like.."hey, just make sure you don't die out on that note..because you could get out of tune without good air support." i dunno something like that...

If you truly love to play the flute and you give up now, you most likely will regret it later.

Well, what kind of advice does your friend need? I have a friend sort of like that, who can't take advice well. It all depends on where she is messing up and with what? I have been a section leader for years, so I can try to help!?

flute-girl, I dropped you a personal message, if you check your message box!
(p.s. Don't let your director EVER guilt you into doing anything. I let my directors do that and I realize now what a bad mistake that was! Always go with what your heart is telling you, not what your director is guilting you into doing!)

Don't worry, everyone who is new to the forum gets really confused about everything for a while... you'll get everything down soon, flutegirl...

With this girl, schoolgirl, it really depends on what she is doing that you would need to talk with her or give her advice or something. If she isn't paying attention to the director or always talking, you could ask her to be quiet or something, but let the director take care of whatever might be related to him. If she is always playing out of tune or doesn't pay close attention to the music and is messing up, then maybe just ask her, like you were asking a question of her, how that is supposed to be articulated or what that note is... If she doesn't pick up on it, then take it to the section leader. If you ARE the section leader, then deal with it straight forward. If she doesn't like it, then that is too bad. Some people are just like that, don't take it personally.

If you feel like keeping your mouth shut is a good idea, go for it. I know that, before a sectional, I usually just let the flutes make whatever mistakes they do and then work on that in sectionals (section leaders are allowed to teach the sections for about a half hour where I am from). In a group practice, where it is just you and the other flutes, maybe this girl will take advice more easily.

I just say, if she is acting like she doesn't need your help, take it to the next person up, be it the section leader or the major or the band director. They can help you deal with her...

Does that help, schoolgirl? I tried to answer as best I could. :)

flute girl,
if other people are feeling negative about being serious to practices, well you can try talking to them.
but if it doesn't work...i seems that they're losing some interest to the band.
don't let the pressure pull you down.
if your really interested in music, then go for it.
find other places where you can practice individually
(im not saying that you should leave the band).
but at least you can still improve your skills without being pressured by other people's negative thoughts.
