I fully agree with you, Patrick. When I give lessons, I always stick to the regular fingerings. Beginners should be aware that there ARE different fingerings for certain notes, but they shouldn't learn the alternate fingering until they have become a little more advanced in their playing. I know other teachers who swear by the fact that, if they teach their students the alternate fingerings, they get better results with the student, but I don't think that is right. Some things come naturally to a student; I only once taught a student alternate fingerings and that was only because she had asked
me to tell her how and she was a very good player already.
I could be way off on this, but it's what I stick to when I give lessons: regular fingerings first, alternate fingerings later
if needed.
