You need to drink water in addition to the Gatorade in the extreme heat condition because of the need to hydrate. Gatorade supplies the lost electrolytes, but the body also needs a LOT of water for replacement. If you only drink Gatorade (in the quantity needed for hydration) you will imbalance the electrolytes in the opposite direction.

Because of our extreme high heat and extreme low humidity it is very easy to dehydrate and suffer heat stroke. Sweat evaporates nearly before you actually feel the sweat (it's nearly instantaneous) which leads to rapid dehydration.

However, on the bright side, it's a lot more comfortable than a place with very high humidity and 90 degrees!
Also, EVERYWHERE has air conditioning. Swimming (many people have a pool) is also very refreshingly cool because of the evaporation factor. The mountains (and cooler temps) are only 60-90 minutes away. And....we never get "rained out" of activities!
(Except during monsoons).

Today with high temps, low humidity and high winds we are having huge wildfires which are burning homes up in Flagstaff. Very scary.

Mmmm...I couldn't imagine living anywhere other than Wisconsin. I love the weather. Cold winters with lots of snow. I'm not too fond of Summer. But it doesn't usually get overly hot here.

I was never fond of Gatorade or Powerade. They taste too watered over. But I love Propel.

Particularly, I cannot imagine who "my nan" is. I'm curious and would appreciate if you can rewrite it...For the rest, phonetic reading works OK for me. Sorry, not a complain, but a genuine difficulty:

I fear a little those special sports drinks because I could not be sure if I drink too little or too much. Anyway, I do not exercise in hot weather at all.

In fact, my only exercise is swimming 3 half hours a week and there is no risk of dehydration there! Possible the opposite, yes.

While this may be a very interesting topic for some, I'd prefer seeing discussions relating to flute and piccolo playing....

THere's other thread then this one, that has pic and flute playing.

We sometimes enjoy talking about other things, apart from flute or music. This thread was started a "Our world", with A TV story of the snow in New Zealand, so you could not expect much about the main subject of this Forum here.

But there are plenty other threads related with flute and Pic playing (true is that even there, sometimes the thread drifts to other issues, but I think it's a little the style here and I find it agreeable.

I hope you can enjoy that too.

~My grandmother had a home there (referring to Madrid Spain) and when I was there I noticed that I didn't see anyone between the hours of 11am until 3pm (referring to the heat).~

I may be a little off, but I think that was the intended meaning.

Thanks kippsix. I had no idea that "nan" meant "grandmother". There many, many colloquial words for that in different languages, but that one, I did not know.

Come to Europe, it's amazing! I am always amazed that Americans consider a trip to "Europe" (as though it were just one place!) as such a big deal and then I remember you are so much further away. I can get to France in an hour on the plane for instance, for as little as 20 pounds (maybe.... 40 dollars?)

Yeah, I do believe we have a different perspective. From here I can drive to southern California/beach in about 6.5 hours, about 30 hours of driving will get me to Chicago, and that is in the middle of the country. It took me about 25 hours of driving from the Chicago area to Washington DC. The US is pretty spread out.

I can get to Mexico in about 2.5 hours. I do not like going to Mexico, especially driving, not worth the risk.

I have been to all the continental US states, and into Mexico and Canada. There is a lot of diversity within the US, but not the same as European or other experiences.

I wish that I had more world travel experiences, so much to learn!

There are definitely alot of nicknames for "grandmother". I think "nan" comes from "nana". Others I have heard include, noni, grammy, grams, granny, mema (mima?), ooma (not sure of spelling), there are so many more.

I think that all of these probably are derivatives through the different languages/culture that have come to make up the USA.

Since I have recently bacome a grandmother, I struggled with what to call myself. I have settled on "Grandma (first name)". I didn't have enough time to get ready for the new title!

OOH! MY DREAM is to travel around the world..visit to different countries!! Europe looks like an AMAZING place. I mean pictures of Greece..OH MY! And the beaches in Spain..and the castles..Paris! AHHH!! It'll be amazing if i got to go... a trip to the moon will be nice too HAHA! Like i'll ever get a chance to go.
i guess chicago is nice..i bet there's a worse place then here..

Sorry, I am too busy to write the way I like. I will travel to south America on Wednesday and everything is chaotic right now.

I had my singing concert last Saturday, It was OK and I spend a very nice moment. Unfortunately,it was not the same for a few others, who suffered like hell.

In my case, I got a gastritis, possibly because of the stress...

Coming to Europe is far easier than travelling to the moon, at least for the time being. Maybe in the future...
