I Have to go to band rehersal on monday, And the piccolo I have is a gemeinhargt 4pmh And it has a real fuzzy tone when i play low notes on it, but when i get to the higher notes it plays fine.Is there a way i can get those notes more clearer.
3 weeks That is a long long Time . I dont think That there going to make a piccolo Play that low any ways Plus whos going to hear a piccolo when it plays that low
Many piccolos are stored for weeks or months without being played. Often this results in the pads drying - and with modern pads this usually leads to a leak. The emergency solution I use is to run cold water through the piccolo with the pads down to start and the up in sequence so that water flows through each hole.
Play low notes immediately and if a leak was the problem they should now sound fine. You'll need to mop out the tube (as if you're putting the piccolo away) before you'll be able to play it properly as excess water may block some holes.
You may still have at least one damaged pad that needs replacing. If so, then even after a few days you'll find the low notes are leakly.
This can also be the case for flutes - especially if they are left in the sun and get hot for a while!
You really should not run water through your instrument. Besides the minimal advantage of a short term fix for pads, this can also cause the pads to swell, causing more leaks, rust out parts of the mechanism, and common tap water is full of impurities that will get stuck in the mechanism or on the pads. The idea of wetting pads is used by many music stores to set the pads, but in the long run really is a terrible idea.
Hmm.. run water through your piccolo? Not really a good idea. I have to echo flutist06 on that one. You would certainly be asking for trouble further down the road by doing this.
