Okay I went to this band meeting for freashmen and other band members and the director Told us that on Monday the 19 That we will be playing a piece that is 190 beats pre minute something like that and i was just wondering if any one could tell me how fast that is and how fast would someone be marching to that.

Is marching Hard and is it fun

I guess it all depends on your outlook. If you want to experienc band to its fullest and have fun, then chances are you'll love marching band. But if you go into all negative, then you'll probably hate it. I really like marching band. It's a whole different style of music than what i usually play. Personally I've found it's a good way to get to know people.

I would suggest that you get a metronome. These are inexpensive and can be adjusted to 'beat' at anywhere from 45 beats per minute on up- mine goes to 185, I think. Also good would be an investment in a chromatic tuner, especially if you will be playing piccolo.
I loved marching band. If you are reasonably co-ordinated and can walk and play at the same time, you'll be ok. Unco-ordinated, clumsy types don't do so well, but the average person can pick it up with a little work.
Be glad that you will be playing piccolo, it's pretty much impossible to hear the flutes in marching band if the brass section plays loud-and they will, unless they are flogged regularly as punishment when the band director wanted them to play soft- and they ignored him!

Marching season was by far one of my most favorite times of the year. OK, well, aside from extreme heat and cold it was my favorite time of the year.

There are times when marching season is very difficult. I would say it depends on the caliber of your band program. My particular band program played VERY difficult pieces on the field, and we barely stopped moving. Lots of high school bands these days are not doing very complex drill or shows though, so might have nothing to worry about. If you do have a complex show, get ready...you are going to work your rear off all fall long.

I LOVE marching band too. YUP, it's all about puting postivity when you march..then probably you'll love t too. It's fun getting all the steps..precision.^_^

so, marching band. OOOHHHH!!! I DO LOVE IT^_^ A LOT..!!
It's a challenge but it's so much fun though! In the begining it was fustrating..and i looked like i had no clue what i was doing. But after practice and some effort...it feels good knowing you could march. OH, and i agree. Marching in HOT weather is NOT fun at all. In this parade, it was 90 to degrees..my BF fainted. really sad...
ANYWAYS, WHOA! to marching band..it's always fun to see the shows on the football field. i'm going to perform this year..really fun!

oh! it was 95to degrees not 90. and let me say we had LONG sleeve jackets and LONG thick pants with BLACK shoes..

That is fast! There was a song that we had to play where we almost had to skip and run.
