Hey! Does anyone ever record themeselves then play a duet or trio with it? My best friend played flute then moved away and I never had anyone to just hang out and play duets! I started doing it with duet books to have something to play with. When I used to take lessons I'd play duets with my lesson teacher and it was so much fun helping you blend the sound together but now I'm older so I'm picking it up again. I also listen to Tori Amos and it cracks me up because it reminds me of playing my flute in rounds because she does it with her voice all the time. It's actually pretty funny hearing Tori Amos sing like that but pretty then it's like wait I'm doing that!

I have a digital piano and i would switch the "instrument" to flute. and iwould record a part of a duet. then i would play along with it. it's PERFECT. and sounds so pretty too..love it when birds come to ur window. I have this nice thingy, where birds can sit. It only happened two times..but it was nice observing birds coming to listen^^...ahhh..good times good times.

I did not record myself but I have been studying duets for a year (Stamitz and recently Haendel Sonatas) with recordings of my teacher playing the second voice.

I highly recommend this way of practising. It has many advantages (and a few dis):

- Your teacher does not make errors... and it sounds beautiful
- She/she is always in tune so your are forced to follow (unless you are somewhat tone deaf)
- You can practice a part thousand times without bothering others (except family and neighbors).

- The recording does not "wait" of follows you. If you stumble, you must learn to recover in some way. A great practise for real duets!
- I enjoyed the harmonies (and lack of) of the two flutes playing that it was a great incentive to study hours and improve.

Problems:

The speed is fixed, no way to play slower ..or faster

It is not easy, particularly to begin - It helps to count one, two, three (at the right speed) on the recording before the first note.

Your teacher should play with a metronome, (better if wearing headphones) otherwise its hard as hell to follow the minor changes in speed.
