Hi,

I play the flute for 8 years now, on a quite high level. My cousin(who plays the piano) and I want to have a few new pieces on our repetoir. We are searching for pieces, in the degree of Bach's sonate (bwv 1020). The piano must be as important as the flute(like in the Bach sonate)

does one of u have any idea's for peaces?

I think it might be intesting for you both to try Poulanc's Sonata.

I agree, Zevang. Just to make it easier to find, it's spelled "Poulenc". Most French pieces (at least the ones I can think of off the top of my head) would suit your requirements.

You might also see if you can't find a copy of the Harbinson Sonata. It's relatively unknown, but a terrific piece, and seems to me like it might work for you. If you are interested in hearing it, a recording can be found at http://www.music.appstate.edu/faculty/harbinson/#Sound%20Files

Here I go again with one of my favorites:

Cantabile et Presto- Enesco

I seem to remember SEVERAL piano players running in fear at that accompaniment to that one. I ended up having to use a tape.

How about Taffanels Andante Patoral et Scherzettino or Dopplers Fantaisie Patorale Hongroise? I performed these pieces last year and they were a really crowd pleaser. Anything by Doppler is seems to be a crowd pleaser and fun to play.

these are all good, I just did the Enesco and my pianist was really great, lucky for me...

I absolutely love Martin's Ballade and I'll second the suggestion in getting that even if you have to purchase it as a piece alone.

Muczynski's Sonatas are very modern and fun to play.

If you don't already have it there is a nice little volume called "Flute Music of the Baroque" (Schirmer) which has a nice collection of baroque pieces.

If you're up for a challege there is also a volume entitled "Flute Music by French Composers" which has some great works, though perhaps not the best editions. It contains Enesco's Cantabile et Presto and Andante Pastoral et Scherzhettino mentioned above and many many other pieces (like the infamous Chaminade Concertino <gag>.
