My opinion concerning the relationship of singing and flute playing is quite positive. I do both, (with different teachers of course)and in my opinion it helps in both directions. Probably mostly in breath control and abdominal pressure control (they are similar in both activities, somethingI have learnt quite recently. And of course it's double fun!

thankx, a trupet friend of mine and my old director told taht as soon as i can sing a note in tune, ill be able to play it, but it never helped me when i did learn...i thought i was just screwed up...

I do not play trumpet or related instruments, but I have the idea that the notes are "sung" in a way for trumpet, trombons, and horn. If true, this would explain the assesment of your friend. Flute is different, however, as you well know..
