I have been trying to practice the flute throughout the day, but for some reason my fingers keep on slipping off of the keys. I haven't polished the keys at all either and tried wiping them down with a small amount of rubbing alcohol but they still keep doing it. I am playing on my backup flute which is s closed hole flute, so maybe I am just used to open holes? I didn't have this problem yesterday playing on it though. I get my Haynes Amadeus flute tomorrow and will be playing on that till I get my main flute back from the shop, so I will see if I have the problem with that one too. I went swimming today for about an hour, maybe it is something on my skin. At any rate, it is really starting to drive me nuts. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what did you do?
Thanks!

Hi Kara (really glad that you're back by the way),
maybe the chlorine in the pool has made your skin too dry, that might also affect how your fingers feel on the metal.

Hi and thanks!
I don't use any styling products, so we can rule that out. We did have to put algecide (sp?) in the pool, so maybe that could be it. Maybe by tomorrow it will go away.

Lol! How about I just super glue my fingers to the flute, they seem to be there a lot anyways. Well.. that and the phone.

Lol! I bet that would get me to practice more too!

I tried putting lotion and let it soak in, that seemed to do the trick. I would have thought that it would have made my hands more slippery, but it actually gave them more friction. Go figure...

Kara,

A few days ago, I was in trouble because of dry lips. This seems so silly, but it was just a matter of someone here telling me "drink more water..." and in two days I've got normal again. I'd just forgotten to do so.

So try to hydrate more, drinking more water, juice or whatever could help keeping humidity. Anyway it's better to drink small portions (say, half a glass) many times, instead of drinking a lot few times.

cheers,

Zevang

Great idea guys. Thanks!

Zevang, that is good thinking. I would wonder about that except that I practically live on (decaff) ice tea.

"this forum needs a sense of humor"
Patrick, I agree. Life is just too short too be too serious all the time. I enjoy your sense a humor a lot.

Patrick, are you still in Tawain? I have never been out of the US, but would love to sometime. If you get a chance, I am sure we would all love to hear about it sometime.

Wouldn't glueing your fingers to them defeat the point of having open hole keys?

Ann, I like that idea! But..then how would I use the phone? Priority #2! Lol! Oh and don't forget I have to type.

My finger weren't slippery today, so it must have been from being in the pool too long.

Summers,I got that Haynes Amadeus flute today. I really like it a lot. The mechanism is so light and smooth and it plays with a dark lyrical tone. The only downfall is that the silver plated keys are rather soft and I found out that they bend pretty easily and I think that it could have been finished off better. It should be fine for me thought for durability since I will only be using it as a backup. The rest of it rocks and sounds very similar to the newer Haynes out today.

It is the 900 series which is all solid silver, B foot, C# trill (yeah!!!) pointed key arms and offset G. And of course I added my handy work and added a gemstone crown to it. They go for over $3000.00 new with the C# trill key, but I only paid a fraction of that price for it. I love bargain hunting!

"You can still tell people about it, just no one can see them. But you know they're there, and that's all that matters."

That's true for most people anyway, so it wouldn't be that big a change.
