i asked flute world and they said that the 221 replaced the 225 a few years ago. maybe it varies in other countries, but i don't see why it would.

the basic model yamaha in the uk is a YFL211 and has been for ages, it's predecessor was a YFL21, there is no news as regards changing the model number in the near future.
