Talking about crazy variations (well not too crazy because the tempo isn't prestissimo) is the Schubert Introduction theme and variations. Good thing I have strong technique and fast fingers

Not that I know of, nor can I think of a reason why there should be. Flutists don't really need to work towards independence of the fingers (you're never going to need one hand to be playing one line while another plays a second line). Yes, you need to be able to control each finger individually (for trills and to move note to note), but they don't need to work AS independently as a pianist's. In fact, often times, you are working to get your fingers to work together, rather than independently, since you only ever are involved in one fingering at once.

Flutist06- I agree..

I think I good my excellent technique and fast fingers from diligently practicing scales, arpeggios, daily exercises, anderson, boehm, etc,etc

Flutists have whole collections of things intended to help with the 3 S's in the form of etudes, daily exercises (T+G and others), and other technical exercises.

I'm sorry, but music4god, what does that post refer to? I'm afraid it doesn't make much sense to me.

Okay...It had been long enough that I forgot that was the original subject of the thread. And Andrew, the Carnival of Venice never goes out of print (it's probably one of the most popular pieces at that level), but the particular edition you ordered may have. Try again at Fluteworld, and I'm sure you'll have better results.

Wow...music4god...that was something else! Thank you for the compliment, but I truly don't believe that is my best. I am a first year in college this year, and to tell the truth...I have met quite a few people that are better than I. I don't believe I will be first chair in any of the ensembles. My audition is Tuesday for the Flute, and tomorrow on the clarinet. Wish me luck!

Andrew,

I might be conned into recording it, but it might take me a few days as I have auditions for a few days and this is the first week of my first year at college. I might be a tad stressed for a while. I will let you know when I feel it's recorded "well" enough. The version I have of this piece is the Briccialdi/Lorenzo version. Maybe you know this, but when you search for it use it's real name, and you might get more responses. Il Carnevale di Venezia. Have a great day!

Micron,

I have noticed that about Galway's playing. Hey, it's great to know that EVERYONE makes mistakes. When I saw him in concert he played the Mozart Concerto in D "as usual". He fumbled a few notes here and there. All-in-all it was good, but the recordings are definitely better. I wish I knew how to splice and stuff on my recording program. Actually, I wish more that I could afford to spend HOURS in the recording studio and have it done for me.

My flute professor for this upcoming year said it is quite hard to get into performance on flute (I have to reaudition because when they accepted me there were no spots left in performance). I m ight just go with a general Music BA...then go into the Commercial Music BA program. I can't make up my mind of course. If I don't do performance on flute...I will be taking private lessons outside of school to keep me in top shape repertoire-wise. Wow...how Off-Subject did that go? LOL

>>then go into the Commercial Music BA program<<

What is that? Is it interdepartmental with business? It sounds interesting.

It is really a degree geared to recording and production...the music business, Midi, arranging...etc. Follow the link, and it can tell you about it also.

Very cool. And, yes, as I guessed, it's combined with the business school. Interdisciplinary programs seem to be growing in popularity.

However, since I went to UVA, I'm not sure if I'm should be talking with you.

And, to protect my English degree, that second "I'm" should be "I." :)
