Thanks flt. 06, that helped out alot. I should have my flute proffesor look at it and she will let me know if it was a good choice. The brand is sonare, but I liked the fact that it came with a powell sig. headjoint. I simply thought the gold plating would be a bonus, turns out its prob. not. Thanks

Sonare does not make flutes with rose brass plating so someone must have added it on. Where did you come across this flute?

<Added>

Sorry I meant to say rose gold plated.

Actually, Kara, if you look at the Sonare SF79BEF, SF79BGF, or SF79BOF, they do have rose gold plated tubing and mechanism. I can't say I've ever seen those particular models, but they do exist. And to Yolanda, you're welcome! I'm glad I could help! Sonares have pretty good heads, but the bodies are just so-so in my opinion. That headjoint is the big selling point, however. Hopefully you'll like the instrument you bought. Did you play the flute (hopefully against other makes and models in the same price range) before you chose to buy it?

Thanks Chris. I never did see that. I guess I didn't pay too much attention with the Sonare details after trying one a while back. I was not impressed to say that least.

I feel pretty much the same about the Sonares. I prefer the Amadeus line or (even moreso) the Azumis when we're talking about that kind of flute. I actually was just looking at Fluteworld's listing of Sonares for a different reason, and noticed (not that that was hard, since they had it bolded in big letters) that they have rose gold plated versions now. Seems like a wierd thing to do to a mediocre body, but if it sells, why not, I suppose?

Same here, I really like the Amadeus and Azumi line but have yet to try a Sonare that I like. I still don't think that it was in the best move for the Powell company to put their heads on those bodies or be associated with Sonare. It doesn't look good for them in my opinion. Then you have people going around saying that they play on a Powell when in truth it is a Sonare with a POWELL headjoint. A Sonare body couldn't be any more different othen that of a Powells!

"A Sonare body couldn't be any more different othen that of a Powells!"
lol! You would think english was my second language. Sorry. It should read...

A sonare body couldn't be any more different then a Powells.

Turns out they have that model (the rose plated kind) out of stock so I read what you (flt. 06) posted and looked at the Amadeus, My flute proffesor told me to stay away from those, I dont know if she meant that becuase of my price range (the sterling silver kind are pricier SP) I cant make up my mind, I wanted to try the sonare but now im afraid im just buying a headjoint, considering my flute proffesor also told me that they didnt have very good bodies. I dont know I need a flute pronto but I dont want to rush into anything. Im going to pull my hair now. but thanks

I really was impressed by the Azumi line, so you may want to try that out. It is good to get your professors input on flutes but you need to be the one to try them and see what YOU like since you are the one that will be playing on it, NOT your professor. A expert in the flute repair field would be a much better person to consult with in my opinion. In the end, you really can't go wrong with even a used Yamaha 500 series. Good luck with it and don't put too much stock in what some people say, go with what you like in the end.

There are many more options in the same price range, if you're willing to look at other flutes. The Amadeus flutes (and the Azumis and Brios to some extent) really focus on the headjoint as the main selling point. Some people can deal with the mediocre body as long as they have a decent head, but others can't. If you want a flute of more consistent quality throughout, other makes may be more to your liking. Try looking at Pearl, Sankyo, Muramatsu, Sankyo, Altus, or Yamaha. Each produces very good quality flutes and sells intermediate/introductory pro flutes. As Kara noted, it's VERY important that you play these flutes and form your own opinion on them. Don't immediately disqualify any flute based on my (or any one else's) opinion of them. We're two different players (perhaps very different), and have different needs from an instrument. I understand that you're looking to upgrade fast, but the upgrade won't do much for you if you don't select a flute that matches your playing and musical needs, so don't rush into buying until you've played as many options as possible. In the long run, a little extra time spent playing flutes and researching will be well worth it.

I went ahead and tried out the Pearl. So far, its so so, my flute proffersor advised me to send it back and try out something new ofcourse, for what I paid for it I could get a very good used flute.
