Guys, I will be working in California next year. Do you have any idea how much fee flute teachers ask in this area? And what are the fundamental qualities that I should look for in a teacher? The area code of the area where I will be working at is 94305.

The prices vary wildly. I had two teachers for a while, one who charged $27 for 45 minutes, and another who charged $65 for an hour. Then there are university students (who often will take on lessons for a few extra bucks, but charge very low rates), and recording artists (of which there are many in California, and often charge very high prices). Primarily you want a teacher with whom you feel comfortable (your personalities should not clash, and you should feel like they actually have something to offer you in the way of knowledge or experience).

try to get a good teacher who can give you references, that way it may justify the price as you often get what you pay for in a teacher. On the other hand, some symphonic flute players may charge a lot but not be great teachers

Here in NYC, some of the famous flutists charge a bundle, but the truth is, they may be doing that to discourage "shoppers", people who take one lesson and say they studied with them on their resumes, something very common in the flute world
