The college-level symphonic band I play in almost always plays a 'hymn' piece for each concert.

Same idea- simple notes and rhythms, but the piece is all about sounding rich and beautiful as a whole, and being emotionally moving. Intonation is really important, as is balance of instrumentation. So is the interpretation of dynamics.

Oh dear, those dramamine-players just drive me nuts!

Solo tuba player at the last concert danced, though, while playing last concert. It was fun, and actually reasonably appropriate. (He didn't get TOO wild... just a little dance- it was a ragtime-type piece.)
