Is it just me, or is this just plain weird? I know we've all seen strange things on E-Bay, but this guy is seriously writing a review of an old Selmer with shot pads and mechanism, and giving it a 10 after comparing it favourably to a Gemmy. I'm just struck by the apparent sincerity of this guy, what is he thinking?.

It is a very unusual review. I just hope nobody takes him seriously and spends extra money that they didn't have to on a solid silver flute, when a plated body/silver head would have sufficed.

BTW, as with everything that appears at the internet, we must always be careful...

I wonder how much he was paid to write that review?

"I'm just struck by the apparent sincerity of this guy".

So do I. My problem could be that I tend to believe in what people says, even on Internet (very dangerous, I know...)

I do not have the experience to compare flute bodies of sterling silver with silvered brass instruments. You profesional, of course have it.

The review is strange (IMHO) in that it attributes a better sound to a homogeneous (metal wise) instrument.

Could it be that he was confused by the (normally) higher quality, due to its higher price, of full silver instruments?

I know that 9x percent of sound quality comes from the headjoint, but, could a better, more careful manufacture and adjustment, possibly inherent(?) to a higher priced silver body play a role in this comparison?

When I first played on my new silver Yamaha 674 (after 3 years with my Gemeinhardt M3) the sound difference was so important I could not believe it. One thing I noticed was the "vibration" of the flute body. I could feel it on my fingers. I had never exerienced that with the old instrument.

I believed the YFL had a thinner tube wall, but after some measurements (i.e quite difficult) with a digital caliper they appear to be very similar (around 0,32mm) The body weights are also very similar; in fact the YFL is 10 grams heavier than GMH, in spite of having open holes.

Isn't a review just one persons opinion anyhow? I know when I asked for feedback in reference to brands of flutes (and looked up discussions of them) I took what everyone said with a grain of salt. Bottom line was always - try it to see if YOU like it. It looks like that guy had his own opinion. We have to also remember that everyones hearing is different which I'm sure factors in considering we are talking about music after all. Just my 2 cents.
