This is my first time posting in the forum since registration was required. I've been reading the posts though, and they are helpful because flute isn't my main instrument. So, hi everyone!

Nice to meet you. Perhaps you can answer a question for me since you are a doubler.

I have heard many times over that Sax is a good instrument for a flutist to pick up if they want to try something new without destroying their embouchure. What do you think? (I'm tempted to see if I can get my sister in law to give up her sax for awhile XD)

I played sax briefly, as well as oboe and clarinet for longer stints, and I wouldn't suggest trying to learn any other wind instruments if you are serious about your flute playing. Some do less damage than others (for instance, clarinet is less harmful than oboe), but none of them are good for your flute playing. If you want to double for orchestra pits or something, or are just playing for yourself, sax is a decent option, but be ready to work harder than usual just to keep your flute playing up to par.

Lera,
How many years have you been playing the sax? What level are you at? I played for a little while, but I hated it.

<Added>

Please be honest.

I am not quite so serious about it anymore Chris, as in I don't practice hours and hours a day anymore. I wish I had time, but sadly I don't. Well, I guess I should honestly say I don't choose to make the time for it like I used to. Darn adulthood.

I practice some of my old pieces here and there, and occassionally work on some new ones. One of my best friends and I get together and play flute on occassion, but that's about it these days.
