I am looking to purchase a piccolo. The music store in my area is going out of business and has 3 left, a Boston Legacy in Grenadilla, a Yamaha 62 and a Yamaha 82 (with the silver head.) All are really well priced and play very well. I prefer the sound of the BL, but like the feel of the Yamaha 62 better. I am sort of ruling out the Yamaha 82 because I prefer to have a wood headjoint. I was also wondering if I should go a different route and get a Sonare with a Hammig headjoint. They have several of the headjoints left, just wondering if they would fit on a Sonare piccolo? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I need to act soon. Please respond ASAP!!

Hammig piccs and headjoints are excellent, if you like the sound and feel buy it

Thanks Patrick, I was thinking of using the Hammig headjoint with a Sonare piccolo. Do you know if it will fit? I tried the Hammig headjoints on the Yamaha and of course it wouldn't fit (not even close.) The Hammig fit on the Boston Legacy but I actually prefered the sound of the original headjoint with that instrument.

For these typed of decicions, you really do need to have a trial for a least a couple days? If you jump into and are rushed into a decision, you may later on regret your choice, even if the price is right. Myself, I like the feel of the Legacy and the scale much better than on the Yamaha, but prefer the sound of the Yamaha a tad bit more.

Types, not typed. Sorry.

Thanks Kara. I missed out on getting the Ironwood Legacy because I waited too long. I wanted to try the piccs out with a tuner before I bought one. I guess I really can't go wrong with either one. They are both under 800.00 and at that price they won't last long. I would prefer to take several days to try them out too, but since the store is going out of business that isn't an option.

Your welcome.
Well for only $800 you can't go wrong with the Yamaha.

Thanks again Kara. Actually I ended up buying them both. Figured I could take them to rehearsal and decide. I like the sound and response of the BL much better, but the Yamaha is more comfortable for me to play, (the finger spacing seems farther apart.) The store gave me a great deal on them (700.00 each) since I bought both. Look for one on ebay in the coming weeks! LOL. Thanks again for the advice!

Yeah guess I got lucky. I don't play the picc that often but for that price I decided to upgrade from my old plastic gemeinhardt (which I tried to avoid playing) LOL, Will pass that one on to my niece. Really wish I would have been able to get the Ironwood BL.
