If you have fuzzy tone get thee to a teacher and isolate its cause. It most likely the lips.

Physical lip interference with air stream, air stream striking outside the embouchure hole, more air than embouchure hole can accept are the most likely causes of breathiness in tone.

There are specific remedies and ideas on how to form a correct embouchure scattered around the board and the web. Try out different things and see what works.

I have said many times before that i luve my Yamaha 'advanced' flute. When i bought it i was too scared to look outside of Yamaha and Pearl flutes. I know that both of those brands produce great instruments that are well made. Yamahas advanced flutes are sorta pricey, but only cos they are fully silver and have opened holes. Yamaha make every instrument under the sun and they are all to a high standard. Pearl also do. It also depends on how serious you are with ur flute playing. if u r planning on giving up in the next few years, maybe just stick with ur flute u already have. but if u want a top of the range flute, to go further with, dont go getting a crappy flute, get a name u know and trust, to avoid problems in the future.

Play as many flutes as u can, before deciding on one, because u dont want to buy 1, and then find a better one, for less money, the next day.Lol

Ok, good luck

Yamahas are not expensive only because they contain silver and have open holes. In fact, for most manufacturers, the option of Plateau vs. French key cups does not have an impact on price at all. I don't know specifically which model you're talking about, but the upper range flutes involve extensive hand building, which is where most of your money goes. You're paying for quality, not metal or holes in the keys.

Yeah i know that. thats why flutes cost more than saxophones, cos flutes are put together by hand..it takes time.

All i meant be4 was that it is going to cost more to my a flute that is pure silver, all over, than to buy a nickel flute.

The open holed comment was stupid, but i only realised at that point that i hadnt mentioned that my flute was also open holed.

Actually, saxes tend to have hand work too, and take a lot of time to build well. And there are some VERY expensive saxes out there. Being a non-saxist, Selmer Mark VI's spring to mind, but I'm sure that there are other very expensive, or more expensive saxes as well. Flute's don't always cost more than saxes. Nor is a solid silver flute necessarily going to be more expensive than a silver plated flute. A nickel silver Louis Lot will cost far more than a solid silver Emerson. This, for the most part, is because of the quality difference and handwork.

Oh blooming heck. i give up. everything ive ever said on any post has been wrong and im sick of it. MOST silver flutes r more that nickel ones, ok...i was trying to make it easier, u just complicated it.

And REALLY good saxophones are more than a really good flute. i was thinking more along the lines of a sax that a student could afford..not a pro one.

Im gonna stop posting now,cos this will also all be wrong.

I have never been very impressed with the quality of Pearl flutes, but Yamaha, I do think are made well. Even though Pearl and Yamaha do make professional line flutes, I would recommend a serious player look at other top brands IMHO, because there are a lot better brands on the market then just these two.
