For some reason I have trouble figuring out how to play relatively hard songs (to me at least, haha) if I don't know how they sound.. This is for a solo competition in Feb. If someone could find me a recording of Sonata in A minor for flute I'd really REALLY appreciate it. Thanks!!

I bet you're talking about the Telemann, but to get the right piece, you'll need to check who the composer is, as many suites in various keys exist for the flute. Assuming I'm right about it being Telemann, I just recently downloaded a very nice version of this piece from iTunes, played by Laurel Zucker. It's on her "All State Repertoire" CD. If that doesn't help, check Fluteworld.com. Chances are they'll have several performer's interpretations of the piece.

Actually, without the composer's name or even any details about the competition (Location,class or level) , it's only a wild guess which Sonata in A minor we are discussing. For example, if it is a Jr. High Competition in Ohio, one could actually use any one of about 100 Baroque Sonatas in A minor. To add to the confusion even more, some composers wrote more than one sonata in the same key.

A good guess might actually be the Bach Partita for flute alone in a minor. Since it's often called a Sonata.
